The work

What we handle on site

An engine fault on a Class 5–8 unit is rarely one thing. A low-power complaint can be fuel delivery, a turbo actuator, an air leak, a sensor reading the world wrong, or an aftertreatment system quietly derating the truck to protect itself. Which of those it is decides whether the repair costs a few hundred dollars or a few thousand — and you cannot tell them apart from the dash.

That is why every engine job starts on the laptop, not the toolbox. We interrogate the ECM with the manufacturer’s own software, read freeze-frame data around the fault, run the actuator and cylinder tests the OEM procedure calls for, and only then decide what comes apart. It is slower for the first hour and considerably faster for the rest of the job.

  • Low power, derate and no-start diagnosis
  • Fuel system — injectors, pumps, rail pressure faults
  • Turbocharger and VGT actuator work
  • Air intake, charge-air and boost-leak faults
  • Cooling system, EGR cooler and thermostat work
  • Oil leaks, seals and gasket replacement
  • Sensor, harness and ECM-side electrical faults
  • Head gasket and in-frame work where the yard allows it

When to call

Call when a unit is doing any of this

  • Losing power on grade or going into derate
  • Check-engine or stop-engine lamp with a fault code stored
  • Hard starting, extended cranking or no start
  • Excessive blow-by, coolant loss or oil consumption
  • Running hot under load
  • A fault that came back after somebody else replaced a part

Coverage

Engines and makes

Cummins and Detroit Diesel, including Cummins LNG and CNG alternative-fuel systems, across Freightliner, International, Isuzu, Hino, Autocar.

Engine-out and major in-frame teardown genuinely needs a shop, and we will tell you so rather than start a job in your yard that cannot be finished there. Everything short of that we do where the truck is parked.

Diesel Engine Repair questions

Which engines do you work on?

Cummins and Detroit Diesel, including Cummins natural-gas platforms. On the chassis side we cover Freightliner, International, Isuzu, Hino and Autocar — the makes our technicians spent seventeen years servicing inside OEM dealerships.

Can a major engine repair really be done in our yard?

A great deal of it can. Injectors, turbos, EGR coolers, sensors, harnesses and cooling-system work are all yard jobs with the right tooling. What needs a shop is engine-out work and major in-frame teardown, and we will say so before we start rather than halfway through.

Why does diagnosis cost anything if you are going to do the repair?

Because diagnosis is the part that decides everything else. A generic scanner tells you a circuit is unhappy; OEM software tells you which component is actually failing. A fault found correctly the first time is far cheaper than three parts swapped on a guess, so we charge for the hour that saves you the other three.
