OEM Electronic Diagnostics for Class 5–8 Fleets

Reading a code off a generic scanner tells you a circuit is unhappy. OEM-level diagnostics tell you which part is failing and why — and that difference is usually the whole repair bill.

The work

What an OEM diagnostic session covers

Most of the expensive mistakes in heavy-duty repair start at the diagnostic step. A generic reader hands you a fault code, the code names a circuit, somebody replaces the component in that circuit, and the light comes back a week later because the actual fault was upstream — a chafed harness, a failing sensor reference voltage, an air leak fooling the ECM into reporting something that is not wrong.

We run the manufacturer’s own diagnostic software. That means live and recorded parameter data, the OEM guided test procedures, bi-directional actuator control to make a component prove itself, and calibration or reflash work where the platform supports it. It is the same tooling a dealer service bay uses, brought to your yard instead of your unit going into their queue.

  • Full engine and aftertreatment fault-code scan, active and stored
  • Freeze-frame and live parameter data around the fault
  • OEM guided test procedures rather than parts-swapping
  • Bi-directional actuator and cylinder cut-out testing
  • Harness, connector and reference-voltage checks
  • ECM calibration and reflash where the platform supports it
  • A written summary of what was found and what it needs

When to call

Worth a diagnostic session when

  • The same fault has come back after a previous repair
  • A unit is in derate with no obvious mechanical cause
  • Regens are happening far more often than they should
  • A truck fails an inspection on something nobody can pin down
  • You are buying used and want to know what you are buying

Coverage

Engines and makes

Cummins and Detroit Diesel, including Cummins LNG and CNG alternative-fuel systems, across Freightliner, International, Isuzu, Hino, Autocar.

Every session ends with a written finding — what the fault is, what it will take, and what it will not take. If the honest answer is that the unit needs a dealer or a shop, that is what the report says.

Electronic Diagnostics questions

How is this different from the scan tool our shop already has?

Coverage and depth. A generic tool reads standardised fault codes across many makes. OEM software talks to the engine manufacturer’s own control strategy — the guided tests, the bi-directional controls, the calibration data. On a stubborn intermittent fault that difference is the whole job.

Can you reflash or update our ECMs?

On the platforms that allow it, yes. Some updates address exactly the drivability and emissions complaints fleets bring us, so it is always worth checking whether a calibration exists before condemning hardware.

Do you diagnose units you did not repair?

Yes, and it is a common call. Fleets bring us in for a second opinion when a unit has already had parts thrown at it. We diagnose it, tell you what we find, and you decide who does the repair.
